Charles M. enlisted in 1861 as a private in Co. F., 18th Regt., Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served three years and three months. Shortly after he entered the service, he was made company orderly, then rose to second lieutenant and finally to first lieutenant.

For a time he was detailed as aide-de-camp on the staff of the brigade commander. He participated in the following engagements: Stone River, Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge.

He was mustered out at Columbus Nov. 9, 1864, and returned home where he engaged in carpentering and bridge building.

A Republican, he served as county commissioner. One of his last acts in that capacity was helping locate the site of the new $200,000 courthouse, he was instrumental in getting for the county.

Grubb on Dec. 9, 1852, married Susan F. Dutton, who was born in Aurelius Twp. August 1829, a daughter of Hason and Elizabeth Dutton.
