Horatio Bean, Co C

Horatio Bean was born in 1824. He married Catherine Bean in Athens County, Ohio on July 29, 1847. At the time of the Civil War, he enlisted in Company C of the 18th Ohio. When his first enlistment was up, he re-enlisted in the 18th Ohio Veteran Volunteers and was transferred to Company D. He was mustered out with the rest of the men on October 9, 1865.

Horatio and Catherine had seven children that are known. They were Lovina, Rufus, Amanda,Virginia, Ziba M., Minerva J., andWm. H. The last three children are listed as having died in 1852. Horation died on November 14, 1904 of senility. He was buried in the South Canaan Church Cemetery, Canaan Twp. Athens County, Ohio.

Horatio Beans

The death of Horation Bean, one of the pioneer residents of Athens, occurred Saturday at his home on Mill Street of senility. He was 80 years of age and had made Athens his home for an extended tim. The funeral services were held at South Canaan Monday, conducted by Rev. L.L. Cherrington of Guysville. Interment took place in the cemetery there.
