John R Tripp, Co B

John Russell Tripp was born on February 10, 1838 in Hamden, Vinton County, Ohio. Family stories indicate that he was a farmer in that county. On June 8, 1860, he married Mary A. Patterson, a native of Vinton County also. In the photograph, John in on the far left, while Mary is on the far right.

In September, 1861, he enlisted in the 18th Ohio Volunteers for a period of 3 years at Camp Wool, Athens County, Ohio. Although a private upon entry to the service, by the end, he was a Corporal when mustered out on November 9, 1864. After John's death on December 22, 1914, in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Illinois, his wife filed for and received a Widow's Pension. Mary followed John in death on April 20, 1925 in Shelbyville, Illinois.

Of the nine children of John and Mary, Carey Averil Tripp is shown in the photograph above as the young man standing second from the left. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
