-----Nathan Axtell of Vinton Township, of the 18th Reg. O.V. M., died at Athens, Alabama. We are informed that he was wounded in the thigh, and died a short time after from its effects.

Nathan Axtell died May 14, 1862 of wounds received during the engagement of the 18th Ohio with elements of the 1st Louisiana Cavalry under Colonel John Simms Scott. The Roster of Ohio Troops lists his age as 44 at the time of his enlistment. No further information is available.
