Peter Guthorel, Co E

Peter Guthorel (also Guthoerl, Gutherel) was the son of John Jacob and Catherine (Krame) Guthorel of Prussia. He was born in Prussia in 1843. When his father died in 1845, Peter's mother made arrangements to bring Peter and his brother Jacob to America. In 1854, they arrived in the United States and made their way to Athens County, Ohio. He worked on the family farm until September 5, 1861 when he entered the service of the United States as a Private in Company E of the 18th Ohio Volunteers. He was with the 18th until the original three year enlistment was over and then re-enlisted with the 18th OhioVeteran Volunteer Infantry. On April 17, 1865, he was made a sergeant and transferred to Company A and in May, 1865, he was made a 1st Lieutenant and placed in Company I. He was mustered out in November, 1865.

In 1869, he moved to Crawford County, Missouri, where his mother and stepfather, Jacob Bruhlman had moved in 1866. In 1870, Peter bought property in Spring Creek Township, Dent County, Missouri. On December 24, 1876, he married Missouri Jane Earney, daughter of Judge Martin and Lydia (Deal) Earney. To the couple was born five children. they were Lydia C, Laura, Ingersoll,Firnim and William A.
