John M. Kennedy, Co A
John M. Kennedy was a private in HenryMiller's Company A of the 18th Ohio. The Roster of Ohio Troops in the Civil War lists him as being 21 years old at the time of his enlistment. He was wounded at the Battle of Stones River. From the David Shott diary, it appears he was wounded during the heroic charge at McFadden' Ford on January 2, 1863 however this is speculation and requires further research to bear this idea out. He languished in the hospital at Murfreesboro until April when he died (according to the Roster of Troops). He was buried in South Salem Cemetery at South Salem, OH where his tombstone reads Kennedy, John M., Oct 1863, Hospital Murphysboro, TN 18th OVI.
